To create the forward movement, each major scene must push the story toward the plot point, which, with its own circular logic, gains its signiicance because it is the moment toward which the story so carefully builds. 4 Counter-Structure As we have seen, stories cast in restorative three-act form tend to be conservative, suggesting an orderly, clear-cut world in which characters control their own fates and action is redeemable by motive.
