All plates were produced to their exact dimensions, so cutting of excess "green" material was not needed after forming. After assembly by Watson Steel, the result was a smooth and continuous surface fabricated with significant reduction in assembly hours and weld lines when compared to the initial conic construction logic. 2 Conclusion The fabrication and completion of the Emirates Air-Line towers has proven that double curved structural steelwork can be archived in a commercial and programme driven 'real life' environment - if the circumstances are right. In this case we were able to deliver a higher quality project and meet a demanding programme as a result. 5m sections that is the maximum achievable using standard rolling technology. We would therefore stress the importance to considering all options in the fabrication and construction process when assessing the feasibility of 3D curvature.
